Configurational Mechanics: Proceedings of the Symposium on Configurational Mechanics, Thessaloniki, Greece, August Taylor & Francis Vassilios K. Kalpakides, Gerard A. Maugin. It is shown how the configurational laws of balance and jump for the director theory of rods can be derived as consequences of the fundamental rod laws of balance of linear, director and angular momentum, and of energy. The configura-tional relations .
This book provides both the theoretical foundation, as well as the authors' latest contributions to micromechanics and its applications in nanomechanics, nanocomposites, dislocation and thin film theories, and configurational mechanics theory. Exploring recent developments in continuum mechanics, Configurational Forces: Thermomechanics, Physics, Mathematics, and Numerics presents the general framework for configurational forces. It also covers a range of applications in engineering and condensed matter physics. The author presents the fundamentals of accepted standard continuum mechanics.

To characterize such defects, the notion of "force” acting on a "defect” in the material needs to be introduced which leads Configurational mechanics book a whole engineering science of "Configurational Mechanics of Materials”.

Configurational mechanics is a subdiscipline of continuum mechanics in which particular emphasis is placed on reckoning from the perspective of the material manifold. By contrast, in classical mechanics, reckoning is commonly made from the perspective of spatial coordinates.

Book January The lecture notes cover the numerous elements of configurational mechanics, including mathematical foundations, linear and nonlinear elasticity and continuum mechanics. This book is the result of the experience of the writer in teaching the subject of Applied Mechanics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
It is primarily a text-book ; and hence the writer has endeavored to present the different subjects in such a way as seemed to him best for the progress of the class, even though it be at some. As dis-cussed by Meyer, Tsui, and Hinings (), while contingency analysis adopts an essentially reductionist mode of inquiry, configurational analysis is syn-thetic:“Rather than trying to explain how order is.
Written by a long-time researcher in mechanical engineering, this book provides a detailed treatment of the theory of configurational forces—one of the latest and most fruitful advances in macroscopic field theories. Through many applications, it shows the depth and efficiency of this theory.
Configurational mechanics has attracted much attention from various research fields over the recent years/decades and has developed into a versatile tool that can be applied to a variety of problems.
Since Eshelby's seminal works a general notion of configurational mechanics has evolved and has successfully been applied to many problems involving various types of defects in continuous media. For the last decade, the author has been working to extend continuum mechanics to treat moving boundaries in materials focusing, in particular, on problems of metallurgy.
This monograph presents a rational treatment of the notion of configurational forces; it is an effort to promote a new viewpoint. In addition, a refresher on continuum mechanics and more advanced background related to differential geometry, configurational mechanics, mechanics of growth, thermodynamics of open systems and homogenization methods is given in separate chapters.
Numerical aspects are treated in detail, and simulations are presented to illustrate models.
